Literary Devices and Techniques

Character is someone who takes part in the action of a story.

Main Character is the character that the story is centered on and most important.

Minor characters are the less prominent

Dynamic characters are characters that change during the story.

Static character is one who stays the same

Setting is where the story takes place, the setting is important in some but not that important

Plot is the chain of events that goes on during the story; it is like the blueprint that the writer uses

Exposition is when the background is set and things like characters and settings.

Inciting incident

Rising action is something that happens during the story that makes the characters struggle

Climax is when the intensity reaches its peak and then usually there is an important decision that changes the outcome of the story

Falling action is when the climax is resolved and the intensity goes away

Denoument is a French word that means untying and is when the mysteries are resolved
